I AM PAPER ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS OVERVIEW John’s main purpose in writing his gospel is to show that Jesus is deity (John 20:31). One unique way he does this is by telling us on several occasions how Jesus uses an expression to describe Himself. This expression is taken from Exodus 3 where God introduces Himself to Moses as the great “I AM”. Jesus clearly wanted all who heard Him to understand that He was in fact God Himself. INSTRUCTIONS You will write a 5-page paper about one of the several “I Am” statements made by Jesus. The paper will include the following requirements: 1. Must have an introduction and a conclusion. 2. Must describe the events that surround the context of the statement chosen. 3. Must show how the statement relates to God as revealed in the Old Testament. 4. Must show how the statement reveals the deity of Christ. 5. Must show how this truth can practically apply to the student’s personal life. 6. You must reference the Bible, the Morris and Köstenberger textbooks, and at least two outside sources. 7. Must have proper reference and citation (2-3 per page) of the required sources. Failure to cite quotations will result in a lower grade. 8. Follow Turabian style and include a title page and bibliography (which do not count toward the 5-page requirement).
