Assignment Content
For this assignment, you will complete the Motivation Scale found at the link below. After completing the scale, you will respond to questions over what you learned about yourself. The responses don’t need to be in essay form, and you don’t need to worry about perfect grammar or spelling. You will just answer the questions below and write up an honest assessment of what the scale tells you about your own motivations. You will submit this as an assignment to your instructor rather than posting it to other students, so be as honest in your self-assessment as you can be and use this as an opportunity to reflect on what really drives you and why. Use this as an opportunity to let your instructor help you understand motivation and how to increase your drive for success.
Use this link to complete the Motivation Scale.
Respond to the following questions about your motivation assessment and motivation overall:
What did you learn about your motivations through the assessment? Do you think that the assessment accurately captured what motivates you? Why or why not?
Based on what you learned in the videos and readings about motivation, how would you describe your motivation if you were asked in a job interview, “What motivates you?”
At this point in your education, what motivates you to be here? What will motivate you to continue with your education in the future?
Describe how you felt and what you learned through the experience. Then, discuss a “take-away” that could help you work through failure most effectively.
Submission Instructions:
There isn’t a set length for the post, but in order to thoroughly address the material, your post is likely to be 350 words or more.
Use the submission box below to complete your assignment. When you’re finished, click submit.
Before beginning your assignment, please take time to review the grading rubric located in the right-hand panel under details and information.
Some people want it to happen, some people wish it to happen, others make it happen. Michael Jordan
So far in class, you looked at factors in success as well as how managing stress can help you to build resilience and lead a happier, healthier life. There have likely been moments when you had to ask yourself why you function the way you do. The content of this week will help you to understand the psychological concept of motivation. If you have taken a basic psychology course, you know how important motivation is! You will dig more deeply into what motivates you and what drives you to keep going even when things are tough. Understanding your motivations will also help you to build relationships and identify environments that are personally fulfilling and which support your happiness and well-being.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of this week, you should be able to
Identify what motivation is and why motivation matters.
Articulate specific personal motivators and how those impact you.
Discuss how you can channel your drive and motivation in order to be successful.
As you enter Week Four, these videos will allow you to take a deeper dive into the psychological concept of motivation and how motivation relates to happiness and success. Motivation is complicated and fascinating. Research in motivation shows us that our personal satisfaction with life and work is often a product of being in environments that are personally motivating and rewarding. Research also shows that motivation isn’t the same from person to person. The first of these videos introduces you to one of the most influential psychologists in the study of motivation, Daniel Pink. The second video looks at personal drive and motivation. The final video focuses on work and motivation and how motivation can serve to help you overcome work stress.
