Your research project should address, but is not limited to, the following areas: Identifying Problems: What sustainability issues or challenges are currently evident on campus? How does Lindenwood University’s sustainability performance compare to industry standards? What existing green solutions are in place on campus? What new green initiatives could be introduced or current ones improved? How are direct and indirect competitors addressing sustainability? What are the expectations of the university’s stakeholders regarding sustainability? Establishing Goals: What immediate and long-term sustainability goals should be set? What solutions are easy to implement versus those that are more challenging, and why? Would a new vision or set of values be needed to guide sustainability efforts? What research is necessary to validate the pressing issues identified? What types of internal and external research should be utilized (e.g., surveys, external data)? What will your action plan look like, including the prioritization of initiatives? How will you monitor and evaluate the progress of implemented initiatives? How will you ensure the effectiveness of these initiatives once implemented? Additional Considerations: While focusing on Lindenwood University, you do not need to start from scratch. Research what other colleges and universities are doing in terms of sustainability, especially if you have limited familiarity with the campus. Infographics are encouraged to supplement your 8-10 page paper (limit to 1) Ensure that all sources are cited appropriately in MLA or APA format, and include a Works Cited page, which does not count towards the page limit. A 10-minute group presentation will accompany the paper and will be conducted via Discussion Thread 8. Note that the assignment will be submitted through Turnitin. Ensure that the similarity index does not exceed 10% and that all sources are properly cited according to MLA/APA standards. Familiarize yourself with the AI policy. Option 2 (Sustainability Initiative) In your previously assigned groups, you are tasked with preparing an 8-10 page project centered on sustainable business practices, such as designing eco-friendly products or advancing sustainable supply chain management. AKA, Option 2 is a business plan that focuses on the development and launch of an eco-friendly product/service that aligns with sustainable business practices. Things to consider for Option 2: Identifying Problems: Perhaps you too find that many current product designs, albeit could, do not incorporate sustainable materials, resulting in higher environmental impact. Perhaps you are aware (especially post pandemic) that the supply chain often involves processes or materials that are not always eco-friendly, albeit could, leading to unnecessary waste and carbon emissions. Perhaps there is a better way for consumers to become more fully aware of the benefits of eco-friendly products or sustainable practices. Perhaps there is a limited engagement from suppliers, partners, or internal teams in adopting sustainable practices. Perhaps there is a better way to navigating evolving environmental regulations and standards that are often complex and challenging. Perhaps you have ideas on how to reduce initial costs for developing eco-friendly products or redesigning the supply chain that is often too high. Perhaps some stay away from adopting sustainable practices due to difficulty in measuring the environmental and economic impact, hint what are some ways to mitigate this? Additional Info: You can use any template (business plan, Lean Canvas, trad or not trad plans) you are familiar with or one that is recommended to you. However, for the ease of grading, I will be seeking the following items in your work: Introduction (your recyclable, biodegradable, or sourced from renewable resources product/service). Short- and long-term business objectives Market Analysis (Industry Overview, Target Market, Competitive Analysis, SWOT, etc) Product Development (tangible or intangible, hint services count; this is the place where you research and select materials to use that are recyclable, biodegradable, or sourced from renewable resources). Product Design (describe the product, describe the design; how will you incorporate sustainable materials; minimize waste; ensure product designs are functional, durable, and/or appealing; with the latter how will you go about testing the market) Market Strategy (positing, channels, sales strategy, etc) Ops Plan (supply chain, production, distribution, etc) Finance Plan (funding, budget, projections) Evaluations and Metrics (KPI’s, gathering feedback, etc) Conclusion
